Peace on India-Pakistan Border as Indian Army Holds Firm, Forces on Alert
The India-Pakistan border, a flashpoint of recent tensions, has seen a return to calm on May 11, 2025, as the Indian Army maintains stringent control following a ceasefire that ended hostilities sparked by Operation Sindoor. With no firing or drone incursions reported, peace prevails in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, though security forces remain on high alert to ensure the truce holds.
Ceasefire Restores Calm
The ceasefire, effective from 5 p.m. IST on May 10, was secured through talks between India’s DGMO Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai and Pakistan’s Major General Kashif Abdullah. It followed intense clashes, including Pakistan’s drone attacks and India’s interception of a Fateh-2 missile aimed at Delhi. On May 11, no violations were reported along the Line of Control (LoC) or International Border, with posts on X confirming silence in Jammu, Poonch, and Amritsar. The Indian Army’s robust response to prior breaches, including downing a Pakistani J-10C jet, has ensured Pakistan’s compliance, allowing blackouts to be lifted in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Ferozepur.
Indian Army’s Strategic Dominance
The Indian Army, supported by the Border Security Force (BSF), has fortified its positions across border districts like Rajouri, Kupwara, and Pathankot. Advanced air defense systems and surveillance drones are in place to monitor Pakistani activity, particularly after recent drone incursions in Rajasthan’s Barmer. The army’s proactive measures, including rapid neutralization of threats, have restored confidence among residents. Local leaders, such as Amritsar’s Deputy Commissioner, praised the forces’ vigilance, urging civilians to avoid border areas. The BSF’s heightened patrols in Punjab and Jammu ensure no lapses occur.
Vigilance Amid Fragile Peace
Despite the calm, security forces remain on red alert in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and Gujarat’s Kutch, wary of Pakistan’s history of ceasefire violations. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized the army’s readiness to respond to any provocation, with further talks set for May 12. U.S. President Donald Trump commended the truce, urging sustained dialogue.
A Cautious Optimism
The Indian Army’s firm control has brought peace, but the region remains tense “‘There’s a sense of relief, but we’re not letting our guard down,’ said a BSF official.” For now, border communities hope for lasting stability.
